Branca gave up nine hits, had seven strikeouts. Howie Pollet, after shaky start, matched Branca's fine performance until he, was removed for a pinch hitter in the seventh. Ted Wilks finished and held the Dodgers hitless. Pollet contributed to his own downfall when he yielded a single to Don Lund in the second inning and then threw the ball into right field trying to pick the runner off first. Lund raced to third and scored on Tommy Brown's long fly to Enos Slaughter.
