The man suspected in the death of a 34-year-old Omaha woman took his own life Tuesday afternoon before police officers could apprehend him, according to the Omaha Police Department.
Police had issued a warrant for 41-year-old William Coleman in connection with the death of Jessica Haley, according to a press release.
Officers responded to a shooting at 4606 Redman Ave., just south of Sorensen Parkway, shortly before 3 a.m. Tuesday and found Haley dead inside the apartment.
Haley’s death marks the ninth homicide in Omaha this year and the fourth one this month.
Detectives identified Coleman’s potential location, and surveillance was conducted at 3602 Grand Ave. based on credible information that Coleman was inside the residence, the release said.
Officers tried to communicate with Coleman for approximately 30 minutes using a public address system on a marked police cruiser, urging him to leave the residence peacefully, according to the release.

At 2:42 p.m., officers at the scene reported hearing a single gunshot from within the residence, the release said. Officers then entered the residence and found Coleman dead.
As required by law, Coleman’s death will be investigated as an in-custody death and will be presented to a grand jury upon completion of the investigation.
The investigation is being carried out by the Omaha Police Department’s Officer Involved Investigations Team and homicide unit and the Bellevue and La Vista Police Departments.
