Alumna Alexandria Kelly '18 and current student Kirsten Krause also competed for Miss Michigan USA in April, both making the top 12 in the competition. Get ready for a stinky weekend: GVSU’s corpse flower is ready to bloom again! 🤩🪴After last blooming in 2022, the flower was expected to take another 7-10 years to return. Instead, Barbara Kindschi Greenhouse staff members found that a bloom had started. The plant is currently on-loan at Frederik Meijer Gardens, so stop by and see it during peak bloom, which typically lasts 24-36 hours.Stay tuned to find out when the flower starts blooming, and learn more about Grand Valley’s smelly beast here: https://gvsu.edu/s/2Kl

June is LGBTQ Pride Month! As we kick off the month, let’s look back at the founding director of the LGBT Resource Center: Dr. Milton E. Ford. 🏳️🌈💙A professor at GVSU for over 40 years, Milton played an important role in the opening of the LGBT Center on campus. Though the center opened in 2008, there is record of LGBT student organizations at Grand Valley going back to 1971. In the mid-90s, Milton came out publicly amidst discussions about benefits for domestic partner benefits for unmarried GVSU staff and faculty. He shortly went on to serve as the faculty advisor for Out’N’About, the LGBT student group at the time, which sponsored and celebrated events throughout the year including National Coming Out Day and Transgender Day of Remembrance.The LGBT Resource Center was named after Milton following his death in 2014.
