Chesterfield County police on Tuesday announced they had identified the body of a man who was found dead in a wooded area near the Appomattox River in 1990.
Police said the skeletonized remains of Robert L. Harris, who was 55 at the time of his death and lived in the 1400 block of Burning Tree Road in Henrico County, were found on May 18, 1990, in a wooded area off Point of Rocks Road. Harris had last been seen by his mother on April 17 of that year.
The remains were transported to medical examiner’s office for analysis. The medical examiner found no signs of foul play, and ruled the death undetermined.

One family member provided a DNA sample, which was a close family match to the remains.
Police said authorities have notified Harris’ family of the positive identification and will work with the family to return Harris’ remains.
